The Hounds

Find out all about our Hounds below and even how to become a Puppy walker.

The hounds are exercised every day and they are fed on a diet of complete dog food, consuming almost 1 tonne every month.

Our bloodhounds are very friendly and take part in numerous shows and social events in addition to hunting.
People often ask, “What happens when they catch the runner?”. The answer is absolutely nothing. They just look for the next runner to chase.
They simply hunt for the love of hunting.

If you wish to know anything more about the hounds or would like to become a puppy walker please contact us on Facebook.
Hunting with bloodhounds is a long-established sport and is very different to other traditional hunting sports.

The Highmoor Bloodhounds are kennelled at Wetwang East Yorkshire. There are 18.5 couple of hounds (37). Apart from 1.5 couple of hounds (3) all the others are home bred. It is our policy to breed puppies each year and we are always looking for people to walk these puppies.

All our bloodhounds have a small amount of foxhound in their family tree. This helps them be healthier, run fast as a pack and have longer working lives. The bloodhounds are trained to hunt only the ‘clean boot’. That is, they hunt a human runner with no artificial scent.
